Concrete is the most widely used construction material in the world and because it is so heavily relied upon to form a strong and lasting structural base for so many of our structures, it is of critical importance to find ways to improve it and maintain it in order to have long lasting and safe construction. Penetron has dedicated its line of products to this very focus.

Concrete damage can be classified into two primary categories: Chemical damage and physical damage. Penetron developed its Penetron Crystalline System to combat the majority of concrete damage brought on by its inherent porous nature. By lowering concrete permeability and giving it crack-self-healing abilities, Penetron makes the concrete waterproof and common but widespread damage as a result of corrosion, freeze-thaw cycles and scaling are effectively reduced.

When PENETRON ADMIX treated concrete is used, the concrete itself will be waterproof and durable. There are however various other areas which are subject to leaks and deterioration, for example construction joints, tie-holes, honeycombing, cracks etc. Using the Topical Products in the Penetron Range to solve these issues will ensure the structure is waterproof and protected against deterioration with one single system and one point of contact should there be a need for support.

Concrete – Just add Penetron Admix

PENETRON ADMIX is a crystalline admixture which lowers the permeability of concrete by self-healing all cracks, pores and capillaries up to 0.5mm (1/64”) in size, when exposed to water, resulting in a waterproof concrete matrix.

PENETRON ADMIX treated concrete, just like standard concrete, needs to be placed, protected and cured as per ACI 318-05 Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete to ensure optimum results.

As a quality control measure, PENETRON ADMIX contains a non-toxic, non-staining tracing agent that is visible during the placement of concrete (florescent bleed water) which aids as an indicator that PENETRON ADMIX was in fact added to the concrete. PENETRON ADMIX is the only crystalline admixture in the concrete industry to contain a tracing agent.

Construction Joints & Penetrations

When specifying PENETRON ADMIX treated concrete, it is recommended that PENEBAR SW55 is installed along all non-moving construction joints (horizontal & vertical) and around all through-wall or slab penetrations, such as pipes, utility lines, piling and steel members.

PENEBAR SW55 is a waterstop developed to stop water penetration through cast-in place concrete joints by expanding in a controlled fashion when exposed to water, resulting in a positive seal inside and against the concrete. PENEBAR SW55 is used in conjunction with the PENEBAR SW PRIMER. The PENEBAR SW PRIMER is applied to the area where the waterstop is to be placed and aids as an adhesive.

Its superior ability to expand and seal concrete joints allows it to replace the more passive tied in PVC waterstop systems and eliminates welding irons, split forming and special shapes.

Concrete Repairs: Cracks (larger than 0.5mm), Tie-Holes, Honeycombing, Exposed Reinforcing Steel, Spalling etc.

All cracks larger than 0.5mm, tie-holes, honeycombing, exposed reinforcing steel, spalling and any other form of concrete related problems will have to be repaired with a combination of PENETRON and PENECRETE MORTAR to reinstate the waterproofing and protection qualities.

PENETRON is a surface-applied, integral crystalline waterproofing material which waterproofs and protects the concrete matrix from within.

PENETRON is ideally used for concrete rehabilitation. PENETRON can be used to waterproof and protect existing concrete structures from the positive side (side exposed to water) or the negative side (side opposite to the water) and is not sensitive to hydrostatic conditions.

PENECRETE MORTAR is a crystalline waterproofing repair mortar used in conjunction with PENETRON slurry to repair concrete structures not only in need of waterproofing but also protection. Repairs can be done from either the positive or the negative side of the concrete element.

Active Leaks

Typically, PENEPLUG will be used to plug/stop active water leaks, sealing of leaky joints, tie-holes or cracks. PENEPLUG can be used internally or externally as a waterproof plugging mortar or where rapid setting and early strength gain is required.

PENEPLUG is a rapid setting, integral crystalline cementitious waterstop designed to stop active water leaks and moisture ingress. PENEPLUG sets within 30 to 60 seconds to 25MPa (3600psi) hardness.
